CHIIC
is run by the partnership of Charles and Gaye Hampton
II, both are profoundly deaf, and are committed to improving
communication and access for all D/deaf and Disabled
people. CHIIC proivide a range of training and consultancy
services on D/deaf and Disability issues throughout
Wales and the rest of the UK.
In order to keep up to date with latest developments
within the D/deaf Community and Organisations linked
with Deaf & Disability issues including all examinations,
we are members of ASLI, BDA, RNID & CACDP. Charles has worked for over 10 years
with Social Services as a Care Manager within the Sensory
Impairment Team,
and as such gained vast knowledge and experience, in
working with children, vulnerable adults and mental health.
Charles has worked with and advised the Police, Solicitors
and individuals in relation to legal matters involving
D/deaf
people. Charles is a qualified tutor who has taught Sign
Language for
over
20 years
in places
like,
Durham
University,
Sussex University, City Lit Centre
for Deaf People (Deaf Refugees), and Portsmouth University
as well as a number or Adult Education Centres. Charles
has delivered Sign Language courses with high pass rates
at Bristol University for over ten years. Charles is also
a celebrated Professional Deaf Entertainer and has
done many Sign Song Performances with Tours
all over the UK and Europe including some TV appearances.
He has also been involved with Disability Cabaret
and has delivered a Professional Storytelling Tour of
Scotland. Charles set up & co-ordinated the “Isle Of
Wight Deaf Project” for underprivileged Deaf youngsters,
through sports and outdoor pursuits. This project ran
for 5 years with the support from the Lottery Fund. Gaye has worked for RNID for almost 5 years, firstly
as an Employment Advisor and secondly as Employment Manager
for Wales. This involved discussing the Disability Discrimination
Act with Employers, Training Providers, and Education
Authorities etc. Gaye also set up and delivered Deaf
Awareness Training Courses to organisations all over
Wales. Gaye supported many D/deaf and Hard of Hearing
people into Employment whilst working for RNID offering
Advice & Guidance not only to the individual, but
also to potential Employer & Colleagues. Gaye did
sub-contract work to write Access to Work Reports for
D/deaf or Hard of Hearing people in work, whether a new
or established employee. Previous to this Gaye worked
for the Employment Service for almost 10 years in many
different roles, including benefits, Advice & Guidance,
and supporting people with disabilities into employment. Gaye is also a qualified teacher
and teaches Sign Language in Barry College and Cowbridge
Adult Education Centre.
